Elements in BLUE

I was flipping through the pages of Emily Henderson’s new book and noticed a blue buffet on one of the pages. I instanty knew I needed that exact same look in my bedroom but in the form of my night stand. My mother is coming for a visit this weekend and we’re hitting the fleas and antique stores. I’m confident I can come across a little diddy that I can paint blue.

I did find on craigslist a mid-century faux bamboo Henry Link Bali Hai number for only $40. If nothing comes of my search and it’s still listed, I’m going to place the call.

The bed arrives tomorrow. I am mucho excited to see it in person!

Mid-Century Night Dreams

Well, I impulsively purchased a bed yesterday.

Many moons ago, in my mid-20s all I could fantasize about were tufted beds. And for some reason I really wanted a purple one. And damask wall paper. What the heck was that about?

I was talking to a girl friend yesterday about tufted headboards and that got me to searching the ol’ interwebs…and would you know it, World Market had an entire upholstered mid-century style bed for $299. $299, folks! So cheeeeap! I ordered that sucker right then and there.

Dresser, antique/ Bed/ Nightstand/ Chair, vintage/ Rug, WM (but no longer available)

These are the pieces I already have, except my rug is a different pattern. And I don’t have that Target lamp. My lamp game is weak beyond measure but I am definitely working on that. It’s hard to say goodbye to grandparent lamps for new lamps. I didn’t realize I was attached to them. Plus they have so much more character than plain old crusty lamps today! I’ll just have to look for new vintage lamps that aren’t floral. I put the lamp here to show blue elements. I’m thinking lots of warm pinks and reds but mixes of blues. Not unlike the dining room and one day the living room (those yellow chairs WILL be blue dangit).

Also, those aren’t the original bed legs. I switched them out for some mid-century style legs. It really makes the bed. YEAH! Can’t wait! Maybe once it’s here I’ll have a better idea for bedding. BEST OF ALL: it’s a queen! Upgrade! Sleeping on a full alone is fine but with a mate ain’t so great.

Get yourself over to World Market and snag you a bed! There’s blue, bone, yellowish, and grey. yay! 🙂

Dining delights

Been a minute!

LA was wonderful and rejuvenating! I am so sad it only lasted 4 days. Joshua Tree is amazing. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

Back to reality.

While in LA, we got lost (ish) and wound up in Little Ethiopia and found 45 Three Modern Vintage (an Emily Henderson recommended store. The sales woman was even raving about her randomly in there. I was like “I read that blog daily! Small world!”) . They had this amazing lime green velvety tufted bench. I think the legs were acrylic.  I knew that’s what the dining room needed, right under the windows! Guests can chill there while I serve up drinks at the bar! This Art Deco cabinet isn’t what I have, but was the closet thing I could find online (I don’t have a picture of my cabinet).  I DO have that tapestry! Isn’t it great! It’s mad dirty though. Ex gave it to me. Was just hanging out in his parents attic. What a find. Thank you thank you. It’s very Alexander Girard. I am in heaven.

So the dream chairs have been sold but I really do want blue chairs for my Eero Saarineen so the search is on.  Also, seeing it like this…to rug or not to rug? Probably to rug but I’m not sure just yet what I want. With black in the living room and all this color going ’round… of course I know I’ll pick a colorful pattern. Of course!
